How Player Props Work

A player prop is a simple over/under on one player's stat line. A sportsbook posts a number, say 15.5 points, and you bet whether the player finishes over or under it. The price attached to each side, often around -110, includes the book's built-in fee, called the vig. At -110 you risk 110 to win 100, so you need to win about 52.4 percent of the time just to break even. A bet is +EV, meaning positive expected value, when the price you get pays more than the true odds of the outcome. If a player really goes over that number 55 percent of the time and you are only asked to clear 52.4 percent, you hold an edge.
