Who makes the picks
Ross Thornton, co-founder of the Wise Guy Team, and the team behind him handicap every play. Each one is a real bet placed with real money at a stated unit size. The programs are kept apart: Official Plays (VIP and Whale), Bonus Plays (higher variance props and long shots, by design) and Owner Selections each carry their own record, and we never add them together to make a number look better. The system has produced 6 straight winning years (2020 to 2025), and the records page shows every program on its own, losing days included.
How a play gets published
- Pre-game plays are posted before kickoff and live plays the moment the bet is placed, each with the timestamped bet slip showing the line, the price and the stake.
- After the game the play is graded against the official final at the exact line and price on the ticket. Wins and losses land in the same place, the same way.
- A push or a voided bet counts as no action, never as a win.

Free content versus member plays
Our free pages (game previews, betting splits, odds boards, calculators, guides and the public betting report) are education and market data. They are not our picks, and they never borrow our record. When a free page mentions a price, it is the price our feed saw at that moment, and it can move.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it. A factual error on a page (a wrong date, a wrong venue, a stale number) is corrected in place. A grading error, such as a final score read wrong or a line misread from the ticket, is corrected to match the official result and the ticket itself; a result is never changed to improve the record. To report an error, email memberservice@wiseguyteam.com with the page and what looks wrong. A person reads every message, and we reply once it is checked.
Independence from sportsbooks
No sportsbook sees, approves or pays for a pick, a preview or a tool result before it is published. Some books pay us a commission when a new customer signs up through our links, which is how part of the site is funded, and that is disclosed on how we make money. A partner deal never decides which side we bet, and our price tools rank every book we track by price alone, partner or not.
How we use AI
We are plain about this. Picks are never made by AI: every play is a person's call, bet with real money. AI is used in three places:
- Game previews on The Wise Guy Desk are drafted by an AI model from the live odds, splits and schedule data. Automated checks run on every one before and after it publishes, covering claims, dates, prices and finished games, and a daily sweep corrects wording that breaks our rules.
- The AI Betting Coach answers questions about betting math and our tools. It can be wrong, and it says so.
- Internal work such as summaries and data checks.
AI output is information, never a promise of a result.
What we will not publish
No promises of wins, no income claims, no fake urgency and no results we cannot show a ticket for. Every page carries the 21+ notice and a route to help. Our responsible gambling page lists the tools and hotlines, including 1-800-GAMBLER.

Are Wise Guy Team picks made by AI?
No. Every play is a person's call, placed with real money and posted with the ticket before the game. AI drafts the free game previews and powers the AI Betting Coach, and neither is a pick.
What happens when you make a mistake?
We correct it. Page errors are fixed in place. Grading errors are corrected to match the official final and the ticket, and a result is never changed to improve the record. Report anything to memberservice@wiseguyteam.com.
