How Player Props Work

A player prop is a bet on one player's statistic, not the game's outcome. The sportsbook posts a number, say 62.5 rushing yards, and you bet the over or the under. Attached to each side is a price, usually around -110, which means you risk 110 dollars to win 100. That extra 10 is the vig, the book's built-in fee. A bet is +EV, meaning positive expected value, when the price you are getting pays more than the true probability of the outcome deserves. If a runner truly clears 62.5 yards 55 percent of the time and you can bet the over at even money, you hold an edge. You will still lose plenty of individual bets. Expected value is about winning the math over hundreds of them.

Why the Best Number Wins

Here is the single biggest idea in prop betting: books disagree with each other far more on props than on point spreads. The same rushing prop might sit at 58.5 at one book and 63.5 at another, with prices that differ by 15 or 20 cents on top of that. Spreads get hammered into agreement by huge betting volume. Props do not, so soft numbers survive longer. Taking the best available line and price on every bet is the difference between a losing bettor and a winning one, even when both are picking the same sides. Over a full season, shopping three or four books instead of betting blind at one is worth real percentage points of return.

How We Find +EV

Our process is mechanical and repeatable. For every prop, we pull prices from multiple major US sportsbooks and strip out the vig to build a no-vig consensus from at least three books. That consensus is our estimate of the true probability, because the collective market is smarter than any single number. Then we compare the single best available price against that consensus. If the gap between the best price and fair value clears our internal bar, the prop qualifies as +EV.
