๐Ÿ“˜ New to UFC betting? The basics in two minutes. MMA betting is almost all moneyline: you pick who wins the fight, that's it, no point spreads. In the main event, -150 means you risk $150 to profit $100, that's the favorite. Books also offer round totals (over/under on how long the fight lasts) and method props (KO, submission, decision). +EV means the price pays better than the true odds, the only proven way to profit long-term. A Title Card on the South Lawn

UFC Freedom 250 lands somewhere we have never seen a fight card before: the South Lawn of the White House. The headliner pits Ilia Topuria against Justin Gaethje, and the rest of the bill stacks names from heavyweight to bantamweight. Two of these fights are priced as true toss-ups. Several others are heavy mismatches on paper. Before we get to leans, let us make sure everyone reading can speak the language.

How UFC Betting Works

There are no point spreads in MMA. You are not betting on a margin of victory. You are simply betting on who wins the fight. That is called the moneyline. A minus number is the favorite and tells you how much you risk to win $100. Ilia Topuria at -500 means you risk $500 to win $100. A plus number is the underdog and tells you how much you win on a $100 bet. Justin Gaethje at +430 means a $100 bet wins $430 if he pulls it off.

Each price also implies a chance of winning. The "fair" percentage you see here is that chance with the bookmaker's built-in margin (the vig) stripped out, so it reflects the real odds the market is offering. Topuria's -500 carries a fair number of 81 percent. Your job as a bettor is to find spots where the price pays more than the true chance deserves, and to always take the best number. The same fighter can be priced differently at different books, so shopping across them is free money.

Steve Garcia vs Diego Lopes

The main event puts Steve Garcia (19-5-0) against Diego Lopes (27-8-0). Lopes is the favorite at -150 (best at BetMGM, fair 58 percent), meaning you risk $150 to win $100. Garcia is the underdog at +140 (best at Caesars, fair 42 percent). The market sees a clear but beatable edge for Lopes. Garcia's plus price says roughly four out of ten outcomes belong to him, which is far from a long shot in a championship-distance fight.

Kyle Daukaus vs Bo Nickal

Bo Nickal (8-1-0) is a heavy favorite at -310 (best at DraftKings, fair 73 percent) over Kyle Daukaus (17-4-0) at +265 (best at Caesars, fair 27 percent). At -310 you risk $310 to win $100. The market expects Nickal to control, but the single loss on his record and Daukaus's deeper experience are why this is not priced as a blowout.

Michael Chandler vs Mauricio Ruffy

Mauricio Ruffy (13-2-0) is the steep favorite at -625 (best at DraftKings, fair 83 percent), with Michael Chandler (23-10-0) a big underdog at +500 (best at BetMGM, fair 17 percent). A $100 bet on Chandler returns $500. The price says the market strongly favors the younger man, but Chandler's record shows he has shared cages with elite competition.

Derrick Lewis vs Josh Hokit

Undefeated Josh Hokit (9-0-0) sits at -400 (best at Caesars, fair 78 percent) against the veteran Derrick Lewis (29-13-0) at +350 (best at DraftKings, fair 22 percent). Heavyweight is the one weight class where a single punch flips everything, which is exactly why Lewis's plus price exists despite Hokit's perfect mark.

Aiemann Zahabi vs Sean O'Malley

Sean O'Malley (19-3-0) is favored at -430 (best at FanDuel, fair 79 percent) over Aiemann Zahabi (14-2-0) at +350 (best at BetRivers, fair 21 percent). The market trusts O'Malley's profile, and Zahabi's underdog price reflects a fighter the books expect to lose roughly four times out of five.

Ciryl Gane vs Alex Pereira

This is a genuine pick-em. Ciryl Gane (13-2-0) and Alex Pereira (13-3-0) are both priced -105 (Gane best at BetMGM, Pereira best at DraftKings), each with a fair number of 50 percent. When a fight is this even, the only edge available is the price itself, so taking the smallest possible vig at the right book matters more than usual.

Justin Gaethje vs Ilia Topuria

The headliner has Ilia Topuria (17-0-0) at -500 (best at DraftKings, fair 81 percent) against Justin Gaethje (27-5-0) at +430 (best at Caesars, fair 19 percent). Topuria's unbeaten record drives a price where you risk $500 to win $100. Gaethje's path is the early exchange, where his power has historically lived.

Where the Value Is

Start with the main event underdog. Garcia at +140 implies about 41.7 percent, just under his fair 42 percent, so the best number is a touch better than the true odds. That is the cleanest small edge on the card. The two coin flips, Gane and Pereira at -105 each, offer no built-in edge, so the entire job is shopping for the lowest vig before you bet either side. Among the big favorites, the steep prices on Ruffy (-625), Hokit (-400) and O'Malley (-430) make you risk a lot to win a little, which is fine if you trust the read but leaves no margin. The Chandler +500 and Gaethje +430 underdog tickets are priced a hair under fair, so they are lottery sprinkles at best, not value plays.

The Picks

Garcia vs Lopes: Garcia at +140, Caesars

Daukaus vs Nickal: Nickal at -310, DraftKings

Chandler vs Ruffy: Ruffy at -625, DraftKings

Lewis vs Hokit: Hokit at -400, Caesars

Zahabi vs O'Malley: O'Malley at -430, FanDuel

Gane vs Pereira: Pereira at -105, DraftKings

Gaethje vs Topuria: Topuria at -500, DraftKings

The Prediction

The headliner reads exactly as the price suggests: Topuria's unbeaten resume and the market's 81 percent fair number make him the rightful favorite, and we expect him to leave the South Lawn with his record intact. But the main event of this preview, Garcia versus Lopes, is where our money goes. Lopes deserves to be favored, yet Garcia at +140 pays slightly more than his real chance, and a 42 percent dog at a plus price is a profitable shape over time. Take the best number, accept that underdogs lose more often than they win, and let the edge do the work.

How does UFC betting work?

Almost everything runs through the moneyline: pick the winner of the fight. There are no point spreads. Books also offer round totals (how long the fight lasts) and method-of-victory props. Favorites carry minus numbers, underdogs plus numbers, and prices vary a lot between books, so shopping for the best number matters.
