Player props vs game props
Player props are over/under lines on individual performance: points, rebounds, assists, strikeouts, passing yards and combined stats like PRA. Game props cover team or event outcomes such as first team to score, total three-pointers or whether the game goes to overtime. Both isolate a slice of the action rather than the final score.
A worked example
A quarterback is set at 248.5 passing yards, priced around -115 each way. Bet the over if you expect 249 or more, the under if you expect 248 or fewer. Props are graded on official stats, so a garbage-time completion or a defensive stop late can swing a prop even when the game result is already decided.
Reading prop lines
Prop markets are often softer than main lines because books cannot price hundreds of them as sharply. That is where value hides, especially on role players and matchup-specific edges.
