How to read this: the result probabilities come from the actual betting odds with the sportsbook's built-in fee (the vig) stripped out. Soccer has THREE outcomes, and the draw is priced like a real contender, not an afterthought.

📘 New to soccer betting? The one rule that surprises everyone. Soccer uses a three-way moneyline: you bet Valencia win, Athletic Club win, or the draw, settled after 90 minutes plus stoppage. Unlike American sports, a tie does NOT refund your bet, a draw beats BOTH win bets. The total is combined goals by both teams, usually set at 2.5. +EV means the price pays better than the market-implied fair odds (vig removed). Four Points Against Eight
Over the last five league matches, Valencia has banked four points. Athletic Club has banked eight. That is the whole tension in this one. Mestalla is a hard place to visit, but the home side arrives on a run of three losses in five, and the Basque visitors have not lost in four. Nobody has posted a price yet. That is actually good news for you, because it means there is time to learn exactly what to look for when the number hits the board.
The Matchup
Valencia's last five read draw, loss, win, loss, loss (newest first). Four points from a possible fifteen. The one win is real, but the pattern around it is choppy. Athletic Club's last five read draw, draw, win, win, loss. Eight points from fifteen, with the only defeat sitting at the back end of the run.
We do not have current league table positions in front of us, so we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we do have is recent results, and recent results say one of these teams is steady and the other is searching. Athletic is also the side that has been finding a floor. Two draws in their last two means they are not getting blown out, which matters when you are betting a road team.
How Soccer Betting Works
This is the part American bettors get burned on. In most US sports, somebody wins. In soccer, there are three outcomes, and the sportsbook sells all three: Valencia win, Athletic win, and draw. That is the three-way moneyline. If you bet Valencia and the match ends 1-1, you lose. Not a push. A loss. Same if you bet Athletic. The draw is its own ticket, and it beats both sides.
That changes everything about value. A team can be clearly better and still be a coin flip to cash a straight moneyline, because roughly a quarter of La Liga matches end level. So books also offer draw no bet (your side must win, but a draw refunds your stake) and double chance (you win if your side wins or draws, at a shorter price). Those are not gimmicks. They are tools for exactly this kind of game.
The Numbers
Match odds are not posted for this one yet, so we are not quoting prices we do not have. Here is how to read the board the moment it opens. Look at three prices: home, draw, away. Convert each to an implied probability, then add the three together. The total will come out above 100 percent. That extra is the vig, the book's built in cut.
Then do the same math at a second and third book. Those numbers will not match. On a three-way market, the gap between the best and worst available price on the same outcome is routinely wider than it is on an NFL spread, simply because fewer people shop soccer lines. Getting the best number across books is not a detail here. It is most of your edge.
Where the Value Is
Strip out the vig and you get the fair price, what the outcome is actually worth without the house cut. Expected value is just the gap between that fair price and what you can get paid. In dollars: if fair is even money and your best book pays plus 115, a hundred dollar bet is worth about seven dollars in long run value. Bet the worst available price instead and you hand that seven dollars back.
Our read is that Athletic Club will be priced closer to a toss up than their form deserves, because the market respects Mestalla and discounts road favorites. Eight points to four over five matches, with the visitors showing a consistent floor, is a gap we would back. We prefer it with the draw removed from the equation.
Conditions
Mestalla, in Manises. A genuine home environment and the main argument against the visitors. No weather information is available to us, so we are not factoring any in.
The Pick
Athletic Club, draw no bet. Prices are not up yet, so the discipline is simple: when the board opens, check every book you have, compare the draw no bet number to the straight three way price, and take whichever offers the better expected value after you do the vig math. Do not take the first number you see.

The Prediction
Valencia will have Mestalla behind them and should create early. We think Athletic absorbs it, stays compact the way a team drawing two straight does, and takes the game late. Athletic Club 2, Valencia 1. That is the Desk's read on a number that is not even posted yet, and when it is, the free daily play sits right below this page.

Valencia vs Athletic Club FAQ
Who is favored in Valencia vs Athletic Club?
Form points favor the visitors, and the Desk leans Athletic Club with the draw taken off the ticket.
Can you bet on a draw in La Liga?
Yes. Soccer's standard bet is the three-way moneyline: home win, away win, or draw in 90 minutes. The draw is a real, often valuable outcome, and a draw makes both win bets lose, which is the biggest adjustment for bettors coming from American sports.
Are these La Liga picks free?
Yes. This is a free Wise Guy Desk breakdown, our analysis, not Ross's official plays. Ross's documented plays are bet with real money and graded win or loss on the members board.
