What is reverse line movement?

🎁 Today's free play, no card ↓

Reverse line movement, or RLM, is when a betting line moves toward the side getting the smaller share of bets. Because the line is moving against the public tickets, it signals that heavier, sharper money is on the less-popular side and is pushing the number.

How to spot RLM

Compare two things: which side has most of the tickets (bets percentage) and which way the line is moving. Normally lines move toward the popular side. When the line moves the other way, toward the side with fewer bets, that is reverse line movement, and it usually means the money percentage outweighs the ticket count.

A worked example

A favorite opens -3 and 70 percent of tickets are on them, yet the line drops to -2.5. The public is on the favorite, but the line moved toward the underdog, so sharper money is on the dog. That gap between where the tickets are and where the line went is the sharp footprint RLM is built to catch.

Using RLM

RLM is a signal, not a system. It is strongest when a big money-over-tickets gap lines up with the line movement on the same side. Pair it with the live public betting percentages and always take the best number: the read tells you where the money is, the price is what actually pays.

Frequently asked questions

What does reverse line movement tell you?

That sharper, heavier money is on the side getting fewer bets, because the line is moving against the public tickets.

Is reverse line movement reliable?

It is a useful signal, not a guarantee. It is strongest when the money-versus-tickets gap and the line movement point to the same side.
